C'est avec une immense tristesse que la famille d'Ada « Girlie » Chevrier annonce son décès survenu le 20 mai 2025. 

Le soleil s'est levé pour elle ce jour-là pour la dernière fois, à l'âge de 53 ans.

Girlie est née le 20 décembre 1971 à Haileybury, en Ontario, de feu Cecil Chevrier et de sa mère vivante, Yvonne Chevrier. Elle a grandi entourée d'une grande famille, composée de six frères et six sœurs. Ses frères et sœurs vivants sont Richard, Darlene, Maurice, Michael, Paula, Clarence, Catherine et Bernice. Elle a été précédée dans la tombe par son père unique, Cecil Chevrier; ses frères, Calvin et Paul Sisters; Anita et Pauline.

Girlie laisse dans le deuil son conjoint et mari de 35 ans, Simon Chief. Ensemble, ils ont bâti une maison et une vie dans la Première Nation de Timiskaming, au Québec. Elle laisse également dans le deuil ses trois enfants : ses filles Ashlee et Andrea, son fils Chevy Chief et sa belle-fille Nadia Chief.

Cher Kokum, elle chérissait ses 15 petits-enfants : Kianna, Gavin, Zoe, Violet, Vivien, Talia, Lola, ainsi que ses trois arrière-petits-enfants : Anakin-Sai, Arthur et Ruby. Le temps et les efforts qu’elle a consacrés à leur éducation ont créé un lien profond de respect et d’amour.

Diplômée de plusieurs programmes, elle a siégé au conseil d'administration de l'Association des femmes autochtones du Québec. Tout au long de sa vie, Girlie a participé à des marches, mettant sa passion et son intégrité au service de la reconnaissance de l’égalité des droits pour tous les peuples autochtones du Canada. Elle a siégé au conseil de sa communauté et s'est fortement impliquée dans la promotion et le développement de nouvelles initiatives pour son peuple.

It is with great sadness that the family of Ada “Girlie” Chevrier announces her passing on May 20, 2025. The sun rose for her on this day for the last time, at the age of 53.

Girlie was born on December 20, 1971, in Haileybury, Ontario, to the late Cecil Chevrier and to her living mother, Yvonne Chevrier. She grew up surrounded by a large family, with six brothers and six sisters. Her living brothers and sisters, Richard, Darlene, Maurice, Michael, Paula, Clarence, Catherine and Bernice. She was predeceased by her one-of-a-kind father, Cecil Chevrier; her brothers Calvin, and Paul Sisters; Anita and Pauline. 

Girlie is survived by her partner and husband of 35 years, Simon Chief. Together, they built a home and life in Timiskaming First Nation, Quebec. She is also survived by her three children: daughters Ashlee and Andrea, son Chevy Chief, and step-daughter Nadia Chief. 

As a loving kokum, she cherished her 15 grandchildren: Kianna, Gavin, Zoe, Violet, Vivien, Talia, Lola, as well as her three great-grandchildren: Anakin-Sai, Arthur, and Ruby. Her time and effort in nurturing them created a deep bond of respect and love.

She was a die-hard baseball fan and played on various teams throughout the years. Baseball was a shared passion with her father, and now they can play together in the spirit world. Her love for cooking brought warmth and joy to family gatherings, and her cherished recipes will be passed down for generations. 

Girlie was someone you could always count on; she was a straight shooter who conveyed her thoughts without judgment and offered sound advice. Her legacy will withstand through our shared memories, the values of never taking garbage from anyone she instilled in us, her unrelenting resilience and the love she gave.

She graduated from several programs and served on the board of the Quebec Native Women’s Association. Throughout her life, Girlie participated in marches, using her passion and integrity to advocate for the recognition of equal rights for all Indigenous people in Canada. She spent time on the council in her community and was deeply involved in promoting and developing new initiatives for her people.
